LIFT-5 circuit training benefits

Most of us are very familiar with circuit training, or HIIT training, these days. Often times, it's about the only thing we can squeeze into our busy lifestyles. And it's not a passing fitness fad. It's been around for a while- we just haven't put the emphasis on this style of training until fairly recently. Now almost every gym around the globe offers some sort of circuit training for their clients, and for good reason.

Last month, I scoped out some of the best gyms in Lexington, KY for a fitness retreat, and immediately knew we had to incorporate a workout from Matt and Wes at LIFT fitness. They were immediately game to participate and support the local Lexington fitness community- there is a reason this gym is so popular. Not only were they game to collaborate, but one of their clients immediately started raving to me about training there during my short visit.

So our first stop for The City Skinny Fit Day: Lexington was at LIFT. After a brisk walk, we headed to the studio. We began with a squat challenge, then we put on our boxing gloves and got our hearts pumping for the first time of many for the day. Wes broke down three or four different circuit routines to give us a good taste of what this studio had to offer. Everyone was challenged, had great instruction, and left feeling empowered for the rest of our busy day.

Top 5 Positive Attributes of High Intensity Interval Training

  • Decreases boredom: With this type of training, you don't really have any time to get bored. It utilizes short bursts of high intensity cardio, like boxing or rowing, or short strength segments, followed by a few seconds rest, then moving on to the next intense activity that challenges another body part makes the time fly by!

  • Calorie torching: Unlike a cardio workout (a great calorie burner in the moment), adding in some strength training in your workout ignites your metabolism and helps you torch calories for several hours following your sweat session.

  • Full-body toning: If properly planned, you can get a head to toe workout in as little as 20 minutes. Throw in a couple of circuit training workouts to mix up your weekly routine, or visit some trainers who know how to mix up their routines to keep things interesting!

  • Mood boosting: Any regular exerciser will probably tell you that this is one of their favorite benefits to working out. Getting your blood flowing can be an instant game-changer for the start of your day, an afternoon pick-up, or a post workday stress reliever. And the post workout "high" is not exclusive to the feeling runners get!
